Presentation
Everyone who will arrive in Val d'Elsa from North will be surprised by the green hill on the left side with a Medieval village of red bricks on the top. It's the old Certaldo and thanks to its walls and to its position it has not been contaminated by the urban development. Here it is still possible to feel and to breathe a medieval air. Giovanni Boccaccio lived here in 1375.
And it is here, where Boccaccio spent the last period of his life, that you can find the Guesthouse Boccaccio, just inside the Stiozzi Ridolfi Palace (XIV century). The medieval town is just outside the door and from here you can have a beautiful sight of the valley by enjoying nice landscapes which won't be easily forgotten.
All this without renouncing to the comfort we usually have, by using a nice and equipted structure which is able to satisfy everybody.
Right on the square there is the Stiozzi Ridolfi Palace (XIV cent.) with its facade made of bricks and with elegant arcades full of terracotta decorations.
The palace still has some medieval signs such as the windows and the battlements.
It is also composed by the great door (XVI cent.) and by two towers, one in the front and the other on Costa Alberti.
The Palace has been completely restored by respecting its original structure. The interior court (XIII cent.) is very interesting with columns and capitals in tufaceous stone.
The atmosphere is elegant and refined and it's possible to spend here very quiet holidays.
Just behind the hill there is a big park that includes the road which turns around the walls, closed in 1896. And it is here, in this country-side that in Summer we still can see fireflies shining in fields.
