Hotels Volterra • San Lino

Hotel San Lino, situated within the medieval wall of Volterra, was originally built as a convent in 1480 and remained as such until 1982 when it became an hotel.

The building maintains a certain mystic aspect of its original "life" thanks to specialized renovations which have helped to enhance its historic charm whilst introducing necessary modern day comforts. From the rooms facing the Via San Lino guests can view one of the most suggestive medieval streets of Volterra, through which pass, the processions for local historical events and the much acclaimed "Flag Throwers" of Volterra. The rooms which face the internal side of the hotel allow guests to enjoy the view of the small garden, where the dominating colours are the blue of the swimming pool and the multi coloured rays of the stained glass window belonging to the tiny church of San Lino. Thanks to it central but quiet location, Hotel San Lino is the ideal place for all who wish to experience the tranquillity of an age gone by or for those who wish to discover the architectural and natural beauty of one of the most ancient cities in Italy.

Accomodations San Lino

All the bedrooms at Hotel San Lino have been created from the original nuns' sleeping quarters.
Distributed over 3 floors, the bedrooms are subdivided into two categories: bedrooms standard and bedrooms superior.
Hotel San Lino provides two rooms equipped for persons with disabilities, a single room situated on the first floor, and a double room situated on ground floor level adjacent to the reception area.

Standard Rooms
The standard bedrooms are located on the first floor of the hotel and are furnished in Tuscan "arte povera" style. This linear and unfussy style of furniture, typical to the area, corresponds with the wish to retain the simplicity of the original monastic atmosphere. All rooms however, are equipped with mini-bar, direct dial telephone line, colour television with satellite channels, en-suite bathroom with shower and hairdryer.

Superior Rooms
The superior bedrooms are situated on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the hotel and are in a classic-continental style. Refined and elegant, the rooms have been furnished with care and attention being paid to the smallest detail: cherry wood furniture, wall to wall carpet, curtain drapes. The high standard of these rooms is complimented by the numerous comforts which can be found within: mini-bar, direct dial telephone line, colour television with satellite channels, air conditioning, en-suite bathroom with shower and hairdryer.

How to reach San Lino

Situated in Via San Lino, the Hotel is only a five minute walk from Piazza dei Priori, the centre around which, revolves the major part of daily and cultural life of Volterra.

Outside the medieval wall, just a brief distance from the hotel one can admire the Roman Amphitheatre and then follow the path way along the wall in order to take in the splendid panorama across the valley with the imposing church of San Giusto.

Hotel San Lino is situated just a few metres inside the medieval door bearing the name of "San Francesco", which faces the Provincial highway.

The Hotel San Lino therefore, is extremely easy to reach from all directions: from Pisa, from Siena or from the coast.
Owing to Volterra's strategic geographical position, the distances which separate it from the major centres of Tuscany are extremely balanced.
